
Eagles Split Pair of Games With Mercer

Team hosts South Alabama this weekend
STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern softball squad split a doubleheader with Mercer Wednesday evening at Eagle Field, taking the first game 5-2 before falling in the nightcap 5-1.
GAME 1: GS 5, MU 2
The Bears took a 2-0 lead after plating single runs in the second and third innings before the Eagles come to life with a four-spot in the bottom of the third inning. Back-to-back doubles from Emma Davis and Faith Barth tied the game before Janai Conklin's two-run blast to left field capped the scoring.
In the fourth inning, Kinley Stewart's double down the line plated Olivia Creamer who scooted around from first base and just beat the tag to make it 5-2.
Picking up hits were Davis, Barth, Conklin, Creamer, Stewart and Brooke Kell (2).
Bailey Holland (W, 6-12) went the distance, allowing two runs on seven hits.
GAME 2: MU 5, GS 1
Mercer used a three-run home run in the sixth inning to plate the first runs of the game. The Bears added two more runs in the seventh inning. Georgia Southern plated a run in the seventh on a fielder's choice RBI from Dejah Mills.
Picking up hits for the Eagles were Creamer, Barth, Conklin and Katie Perkins.
Alana Barnard (L, 1-5) allowed three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts in six inning of work. Kastin Belogorska gave up two runs in the seventh frame. Morgan Kendrick had two strikeouts.
The Eagles (17-23) will be back in action this weekend, hosting South Alabama in a three-game Sun Belt series that starts on Friday.
