No. 12 Bulldogs Halt Eagles' Win Streak On Wednesday

Georgia takes a 9-1 win over the Eagles; Three-game series at Georgia State up nexxt
ATHENS - The No. 12-ranked Georgia softball team used a pair of big innings to pick up a 9-0 non-conference win over visiting Georgia Southern on Wednesday evening at the Jack Turner Softball Stadium in Athens.
The Bulldogs improved to 32-8 on the season with the win, while Georgia Southern saw its three-game win streak come to a close, falling to 14-21. The Eagles return to Sun Belt Conference play on Friday, beginning a three-game series at Georgia State with a 1 p.m. contest in Atlanta.
The Bulldogs plated five runs in the bottom of the second to take a 5-0 lead. Two-run singles by Ellie Armistead and Dallis Goodnight, along with a wild pitch, accounted for the five-run frame.
The Eagles put two runners on in the third, but a popup ended the threat.
Georgia then got a grand slam home run from Lyndi Rae Davis in the bottom of the fourth inning for the final 9-0 margin.
Bailey Holland (4-12) took the loss for the Eagles, giving up five hits and five runs in 1 1/3 innings of work, walking one while striking out two. Madison Kerpics (12-5) notched the win for the Bulldogs, giving up three hits and no runs in four innings of work, striking out eight.
Emma Davis went 2-for-3 to lead the Eagles offensively, her 10th multi-hit game of the season.
