Owls Blank Eagles, 5-0, On Tuesday

Georgia Southern returns to action on Tuesday, March 14, traveling to Georgia Tech

STATESBORO - Kennesaw State broke open a one-run game with a four-run seventh inning to claim a 5-0 college softball victory over host Georgia Southern on Tuesday evening at Eagle Field.

The Owls improved to 6-13 with the victory, while Georgia Southern falls to 10-11. The Eagles are next in action on Tuesday, March 14, traveling to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech at 5 p.m.

Georgia Southern's Bailey Holland and Kennesaw State's Kenley Hilleary both put up strong performances in the circle through the first six innings. The only run in the first six game in the third inning on a two-out RBI single by Brinaya Bailey.

The Eagles threatened in the bottom of the sixth as Faith Barth and Emma Davis led off the inning with back-to-back singles, but Melanie Bennett entered the circle for the Owls and set down the next three batters to end the threat.

Kennesaw State then put the game away with four runs in the top of the fifth, highlighted by a three-run home run by Taylor Cates.

Hilleary (2-3) picked up the win in the circle for the Owls, hurling five-plus innings of shutout ball, giving up four hits while striking out 10. Bennett struck out three in two perfect innings of relief for her first save of the season. Holland (3-6) took the loss for the Eagles, giving up nine hits and five runs in seven innings, walking one while striking out six.
