Men’s Golf Sits in Ninth after Two Rounds at The Valspar

Ben Carr is tied for second on the individual leaderboard.

PALM CITY, Fla. – Ben Carr shot 66-69 (-7), and the Georgia Southern men's golf team sits in ninth place after two rounds of The Valspar Collegiate Invitational Monday at The Floridian.

Third-ranked Texas Tech (-18) leads the tournament by three strokes over No. 4 North Carolina (-15). Seventh-ranked Florida State (-10) is in third, a stroke ahead of No. 2 Arizona State (-9), and No. 10 Texas (-5) is tied with Ohio State. 

The 18th-ranked Eagles (+1) are six shots back of fifth and two strokes ahead of No. 26 Northwestern (+3). Twelve of the 15 teams in the field are ranked in the top-50, according to Golfstat, and six are ranked in the top-10.

Carr is tied with Houston's Wolfgang Glawe (-7) and North Carolina's David Ford for second, and the trio is three shots back of leader Ludvig Aberg (-10) of Texas Tech. Eagle Mason Williams shot 68-71 (-3) and is tied for 15th.

Carr made six birdies and an eagle in the first round and shot 33 on each side. The fifth-year senior rolled in five birdies in the second round, including three in a row on holes 6, 7 and 8.
 
Williams played his first five holes of the day 3-under and rolled in four birdies in the second round. Wilson Andress shot a 2-under 69 in the second round and was four under on his final nine holes of the day.

The Eagles are paired with Northwestern, Wake Forest and Duke for tomorrow's third and final round and will tee off holes 9-12 in a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
