STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team will take on the Mercer Bears in a midweek contest on Wednesday, March 22, at OrthoGeorgia Park in Macon, Georgia. This is the second time the teams have met this season, and will be the final regular season meeting between the two in 2023.
Georgia Southern comes into the game with a 10-10 record, fighting back to .500 after a sweep of the South Alabama Jaguars last weekend. It was the second-consecutive sweep of the Jaguars the Eagles earned in as many seasons. Mercer comes into the game with a 14-7 after dropping a weekend series against Rutgers two games to one.
Mercer is Georgia Southern's most commonly played opponent, with 170 meetings between the two all-time. The Eagles own a dominating 120-49-1 record over the Bears all-time, and have won the last three meetings between the two programs.
The Eagles own a 49-25-1 record all-time in Macon against the Bears, and won 8-3 the last time the Eagles took on Mercer in Macon. In that game, a rain delay stopped the game for several hours, but the game was resumed and the Eagles were able to take the game from the Bears.
Georgia Southern will lean on the arm of right-hander
Ga'von Wray (0-1, 6.75 ERA) on Wednesday night. Mercer is yet to name a starter for the contest.
