STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team is set to host the East Tennessee State Buccaneers for a three-game series, beginning on Friday, Feb. 24. First pitch for Friday's game is set for 4 p.m. at J.I. Clements Stadium.
The Eagles and the Buccaneers have both started off the year with 2-2 records. Both took their season-opening series, GS defeating West Virginia two games to one and ETSU defeating Toledo two games to one, before both fell to ACC competition in their first midweek of the year. GS fell against Georgia Tech earlier this week and ETSU fell against 14th-ranked Virginia Tech on the road.
Georgia Southern owns a 43-17 all-time record against the Buccaneers and currently holds a seven-game win streak over ETSU. Georgia Southern and ETSU will face off the first time since 2005, where the Eagles defeated ETSU four times that year. The Eagles swept the Bucs in the regular season series that year, then defeated the Bucs again in the SoCon tournament. The series was played annually from 1992 to 2005, but after the 2005 season, the Bucs moved to the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Bucs would rejoin the SoCon in 2014 when Georgia Southern and Appalachain State left the conference to join the Sun Belt Conference.
Sunday will see the return of a fan-favorite promotion, the Bark in the Park game! Fans need to make sure they review Bark in the Park policies, which can be found at the bottom of this release.
Fans must also note that this is one of two Bark in the Parks at J.I. Clements this season. There will only be one more Bark in the Park this season.
The Eagles will return the same starting rotation from the West Virginia series, with LHP
Ty Fisher (0-0, 4.50 ERA) taking the mound on Friday, RHP
Ben Johnson (1-0, 1.80 ERA) pitching on Saturday, and RHP
