Eagles Close Out Leadoff Classic Action On Saturday

Georgia Southern falls to Lehigh, 4-3, and No. 9 Alabama, 13-1

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Georgia Southern concluded action in the Easton Leadoff Classic on Saturday, dropping a pair of games in the tournament hosted by No. 9 Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

The Eagles (0-4) lost to Lehigh by a 4-3 score in the day's first action, then fell to host No. 9 Alabama, 13-1, in five innings in the second game.

Georgia Southern will open up its home slate this coming weekend, hosting the 2023 Bash in the Boro tournament from Friday through Sunday. The Eagles open up the weekend by hosting Long Island on Friday, February 17, at 3 p.m.

GAME ONE: Lehigh 4, Georgia Southern 3

The Eagles trailed the Mountain Hawks by a 2-1 score heading to the seventh inning. Emily Greek had a two-out RBI single to tie the game at 2-all, then Olivia Creamer scored on a wild pitch to put Georgia Southern up by a 3-2 score.

Lehigh's Emily Cimino then won the game for the Mountain Hawks with a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh.

Chloe Hess (2-0) got the final out of the seventh to pick up the win for Lehigh. Bailey Holland (0-2) gave up three hits and two unearned runs to take the loss, striking out four.

Greek went 2-for-3 with two RBI to lead the Eagles offensively.

GAME TWO: No. 9 Alabama 13, Georgia Southern 1 (5 inn.)

The Crimson Tide broke open a 4-1 game in the bottom of the fourth inning with a nine-run frame to take the 13-1 win over the Eagles in the final game of the Classic for Georgia Southern.

Alabama plated a single run in the first, then three in the second to take a 4-0 lead. Courtney Ball's RBI single in the top of the third got the Eagles on the board, then Alabama sent 13 batters to the plate in the nine-run fourth, highlighted by a three-run inside-the-park home run by Kenleigh Cahalan.

Alex Salter (1-0) pitched three innings of two-hit, one-run ball, walking one and striking out four to get the win for the Crimson Tide. Graceanne Spears (0-2) took the loss for the Eagles, giving up four hits and four runs in 1 2/3 innings of work, walking three.
