Prestigious Bush Cup to take place Tuesday at Congaree
STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern men's golf team will wrap up its fall slate on Tuesday, battling Army West Point in the prestigious Bush Cup being played at Congaree Golf Club in Ridgeland, South Carolina.
The two teams will compete in a match-play style event, starting with five, two-man team matches starting at 8 a.m. At noon, 10 singles matches in match play will begin. The winner of each match earns a point for his team with a tie earning both squads a half point. The team with the highest total at the end of the 15 matches will be declared the winner.
All 10 Georgia Southern golfers are scheduled to participate. The coaches will select pairings Monday night at the Welcome Dinner.
Tuesday's event is closed to the general public.

The Bush Cup Foundation is a registered 501c3 charitable organization which was established to promote and celebrate collegiate sports, athletes and to inspire their commitment to service for others and our Country. The inspiration for the Foundation is the life of former President George H.W. Bush, 41st President of the United States.
In 2014, the historic Winged Foot Golf Club, located in Mamaroneck, New York, was honored to host the Army West Point golf team and SMU Mustangs in a Walker Cup competition. Winged Foot has hosted five U.S. Opens, two U.S. Women's Opens, two U.S. Amateurs, a U.S. Senior Open, a PGA Championship and a Walker Cup Match. Under Winged Foot's by-laws the Club hosts a wide variety of events in order to give back to the game of golf. The Army West Point/SMU contest was a spirited competition and became the inspiration for the Bush Cup.
In January 2015, a group of members of Winged Foot formally established the Bush Cup in honor of our former President George H.W. Bush. The U.S. Military Academy agreed to serve as host team in this annual event competing against other distinguished Universities throughout the Country. Yale University (President Bush's alma mater) for the inaugural Bush Cup competition held at Winged Foot Golf Club.
