Georgia Southern downs Army 8.5-6.5
RIDGELAND, S.C. - Hogan Ingram and Luke Dasher both went 2-0-0 on the day to help the Georgia Southern men's golf team rally late to defeat Army West Point 8.5-6.5 in the Sixth Bush Cup, held Tuesday at Congaree Golf Club.
The morning session featured five foursome matches in an alternate-shot format. The tandem of Luke Koenig and Ingram got things started with a 3&2 win to put the Eagles on the board. They were followed shortly after by Lindsey Cordell and Dasher's 2&1 win to make it 2-0. Brantley Baker and Brycen Jones finished all square in their match and the Black Knights took the final two matches to make it 2.5 apiece heading to the break.
The afternoon session consisted of 10 singles matches with the first team earning 5.5 points picking up the win. The Black Knights took the early advantage with Parker Claxton having to withdraw due to illness and then winning two of the first four contested matches. Ingram rolled to a 6&5 win and Hayden Carner drew half a point with a tie to make it 6-4 in favor of Army. The Eagles took care of business in the back-half of the draw to claw their way back and to a win as Luke Dasher (2&1), Jones (5&4), Brantley Baker (4&3), Coleman (4&3) picked up victories and Ian Glanton gained a half point with a draw to assure the trophy was presented to Georgia Southern at the end of the day.
Nine of the Eagles who competed earned at least half a point, making it a total team effort.
Words From Coach Carter Collins: "This was an incredible experience. I'm so proud of our team for the way they came together and fought to win The Bush Cup. This match was tight all day and they never quit fighting. To compete at Congaree was very special, an event we will never forget. I cannot say enough good things about Army and Coach Bagley. It was an honor to compete against them. We learned a lot from them and are extremely grateful for the opportunity to battle with them. Hail Southern!"
