Eagles wrap up competition at Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate
JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – Freshman Brycen Jones fired a 3-under 213 to finish tied for seventh at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, hosted by ETSU at the Blackthorn Club, as the Georgia Southern men's golf team wrapped up its final team tournament of the fall.
Jones started the tournament strong on Sunday, firing a career-low 67 (-5) with eight birdies to lead the way as the team shot an even-par 288. The 288 is the lowest opening round for the Eagles in four fall tournaments this year. Starting on 10, Jones carded a -2 on his first nine holes and then posted four birdies on the way to the impressive score. Hayden Carner, playing as an individual, carded a three-under 69 with five birdies.
On Monday, it was Parker Claxton's turn to go low as the sophomore fired a 3-under 69 with five birdies. He birdied two of the first three holes and olayed the final five holes one-under for his second round in the 60s this fall. Reece Coleman and Jones both shot one-under 71s as the Eagles as a team cut two strokes off their total with a 286. In the final round, Reece Coleman carded four birdies to shoot an even-par 72 to lead the way.
Jones and Coleman led the way with 13 birdies apiece over the three days while Baker and Claxton tied for the team lead with 36 pars each. For Jones, it was his first top-10 finish as a collegian and his second tournament in four appearances finishing under par. Claxton (+2; T36) and Coleman (+3; T34) both posted top-40 finishes.
