MACON, Ga. - Jack Stallings will be inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, the organization announced on Thursday. The induction will take place on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the historic Macon City Auditorium in Macon, Ga.
A prolific college baseball coach with a career that spanned 39 years, Jack Stallings began his career as Assistant Coach at his alma mater of Wake Forest, and became the Demon Deacons Head Coach in 1960. After nine seasons, he became the Head Coach at Florida State, and in 1970 led the Seminoles to the College World Series, where they finished as runners-up. Coach Stallings became the head coach at Georgia Southern in 1976, where he remained for the rest of his coaching career, guiding the Eagles to three SoCon championships, five NCAA postseason appearances, and one College World Series appearance in 1990. He also coached with the U.S. national baseball team in the '70s and '80s. Coach Stallings passed away on June 19, 2018.
The Georgia Sports Hall of Fame Legends is a recent creation of the Hall of Fame Authority, whose purpose is to induct individuals who deserve Hall of Fame recognition and were not inducted during their lifetime. This year's class will also include former West Laurens HS/Georgia Tech football/Denver Broncos player Demaryius Thomas, former Georgia baseball coach Steve Webber, and former Georgia Military College football coach Bert Williams.
