It's the Eagles first appearance in the Yale Invitational and the first time they have played in Connecticut since the program started in 2015. It will be the first time the Eagles have played outside the states of Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and North Carolina since the spring of 2021.
The Eagles are coming off their first Sun Belt Championship and subsequent NCAA Women's Golf Championship appearance. The Eagles led the Sun Belt Championship wire to wire and topped defending champion Coastal Carolina by four strokes at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida. Rattanasin earned medalist honors and Newton tied for 11th.
Georgia Southern went on to place seventh at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional, where Newton tied for 12th and finished just two strokes out of an individual bid to the NCAA Finals.
The Eagles won two team tournaments and finished as runners-up three times last season and set records for team tournament score, individual tournament score and lowest team round. Georgia Southern carded eight of the top-10 lowest rounds in program history and set the school record for season scoring average.
Newton makes her 20th start in the lineup for the Eagles, while Rattanasin will be playing in the lineup for the 12th time and Alex Stevenson makes her ninth career start. Karlee Vardas makes her second start in the lineup and Meiqi Gao, who subbed in the Sun Belt Championship last season, makes her first start in the lineup.
