STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern men's soccer team is set to host their home opener on Sunday, September 4, with a match against the 12th-ranked Charlotte 49ers. Kickoff is set for 7 PM at Eagle Field at Erk Russell Park.
Georgia Southern comes into the match with a 0-2-0 record after dropping contests on the road to Presbyterian and UNC Asheville. Charlotte comes to Statesboro carrying a 2-0 record after defeating UConn 3-1 on the road and Gardner-Webb 4-0 in Charlotte.
According to RPI Update, the 49ers come in tied for the top position in RPI with Boston College, along with the a national ranking of #12. This makes Charlotte one of the highest-ranked teams to ever play at Eagle Field (tied for fourth with #12 Furman on 10/30/2002).
This is the second time ever that the Eagles and the 49ers have linked up for a match. The first time the two played was last season, which ended in a 3-1 win for the 49ers in Charlotte. In last year's match, the Eagles out-shot the 49ers 17-14, along with ending the match with more saves that the 49ers, 3-1.
