Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Graham Cooper

Eagles Clipped by Bears, 1-0

MACON, Ga. – The Georgia Southern men's soccer team fell to the Mercer Bears by a final score of 1-0 on Tuesday night at Betts Stadium. The loss drops the Eagles to 1-8-0 while the Bears move to 4-2-4 on the season.

The first half of action was tight as both team's defenses played hard and kept each other in check. Goalkeeper Dagoberto Romero recorded the only two saves of the first half and the teams entered the half at a 0-0 stalemate.

In the second half, the only goal of the night was scored in the 51' from an own-goal by the Eagles defense.

Romero ended the night with three saves, whereas the Bears had one save on the night.

"Any kind of success that you're trying to obtain at high levels, there's a journey that you need to go on," said head coach John Murphy. "We're on that journey right now. The valley is a little deeper than we expected and wanted it to be, but it's part of the process. I'm proud of every single kid that stepped on the field tonight and the energy was magnificent, but we're struggling to find ways to win games."

"This isn't the time to criticize this young group. This is for me, as the head coach, to figure out what we need to do to improve upon the good things that we did tonight. We need to work for the next couple of days and prepare for a very important game at home against our number one rival, Georgia State."
