Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Graham Cooper

Eagles Fall to South Carolina, 1-0

COLUMBIA, SC - The Georgia Southern men's soccer team fell to South Carolina on Saturday afternoon, 1-0, at Stone Stadium. The loss drops the Eagles to 0-2 in Sun Belt Conference play.

The first half of action saw the two squads tied at 0-0, with both squads holding onto a single save and a shot on goal each. In the second half of play, the Gamecocks (5-3-1) pushed the lone goal of the game through the net at the 57', to seal the 1-0 win over the Eagles (1-7-0).

Both teams ended the game with two goalkeeper saves and two corner kicks. The Eagles played disciplined and were out-fouled by SC, 17-6.

"It's tough to go anywhere on the road," said head coach John Murphy, "and it's even tougher when you're in conference. I thought the team made a very good account for itself. We don't celebrate negative results, but we encourage and appreciate the manner in which the group played today. They showed a lot of fight and bounced back from Tuesday's game at Jacksonville."

"I thought there were some fantastic performances, in particular with Jona Kafka, who I thought played very well. Hilary Odhiambo played very well, Samuel Odame was very good and we got great efforts off the bench from Zachary Martin and Jack Ireland, so there's a lot of things to take away. We can't get caught up on records, we have to focus on this group growing and developing, and keeping a positive culture, which we've done. We have a small break before we play Mercer on Tuesday, and we look forward to that game."
