
Sun Belt Announces 2022-23 Conference Women's Basketball Schedule

Eagles will play an 18-game league slate, beginning on December 29 against Texas State
STATESBORO - The Sun Belt Conference unveiled the 2022-23 women's basketball conference slate today, including the four newest members of the league. The 18-game league slate begins on Thursday, December 29 when the Eagles host Texas State at Hanner Fieldhouse.
The conference opener for Georgia Southern will be a doubleheader with the Eagle men's basketball squad, who take on South Alabama later that day. The opening weekend of league play finishes with Georgia Southern hosting Arkansas State on Saturday, December 31 for a New Year's Eve tilt against the Red Wolves.
The 2023 calendar year begins with the Eagles on the road at Coastal Carolina on Thursday, January 5, then Georgia Southern faces one of the four new Sun Belt schools in Marshall on Saturday, January 7, in Huntington, W. Va. It will be the first meeting with the Thundering Herd since 2002, and the first as conference rivals since 1997.
The Eagles return home to host another new foe, Old Dominion, on Thursday, January 12, in the first meeting between the two new Sun Belt rivals. Georgia Southern then welcomes in Appalachian State on Saturday, January 14.
A road trip to James Madison on Thursday, January 19, will be the first meeting with the Dukes since 2002. The Eagles then fly to Monroe to take on ULM on Saturday, January 21.
The month of January concludes with a split weekend as the Eagles host Louisiana on Thursday, January 26, before traveling to Troy to face the Trojans on Saturday, January 28.
Georgia Southern opens February by hosting Georgia State on Thursday, February 2, and James Madison on Saturday, February 4. The Eagles travel to Old Dominion on Thursday, February 9, then visit App State on Saturday, February 11.
The final home weekend of the season sees Georgia Southern host Marshall on Thursday, February 16, then Coastal Carolina on Saturday, February 18. The Eagles then wrap up the regular season on the road, taking on South Alabama on Wednesday, February 22, and Georgia State on Saturday, February 18.
The 2023 Sun Belt Conference Championships will take place on Tuesday, February 28 through Monday, March 6 at the Pensacola Bay Center in Pensacola, Fla. All 14 teams will advance to the tournament in 2022-23.
Head coach Anita Howard's squad went 18-10 a year ago and advanced to the Sun Belt quarterfinals for the first time in school history. The Eagles return nine players from last year's squad, including Sun Belt Sixth Woman of the Year Terren Ward.
