No. 24 Eagles Take Series Finale from Coastal Carolina, 3-2

Long ball makes the difference for the Eagles

STATESBORO - The 24th-ranked Georgia Southern baseball team defeated the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Sunday afternoon at J.I. Clements Stadium by a final score of 3-2.
 
Coastal Carolina (25-15-1, 13-7-1 SBC) got on the board first in the top of the second inning, but Georgia Southern (29-15, 15-6 SBC) responded in the bottom of the fourth with a big Austin Thompson two-run home run, bringing Jason Swan to the plate with him.
 
The Chanticleers would score one more in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at 2-2, but Noah Ledford would crank the Eagles' second home run of the day over the right field wall, taking the lead at 3-2. Neither team would score again as Danny Madden hurled two hitless innings, striking out five to earn his first save of the season and preserve the win.
 
Anthony DiMola (1-0) earned his first win of the season with a four-inning outing, where he only allowed two hits, one run, and struck out two Chanticleer batters.
 
QUICK HITS
  • Austin Thompson tied Noah Ledford for most home runs on the team with 10 in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Ledford would hit his team-leading 11th homer in the bottom of the seventh inning.
  • Jason Swan led the Eagles with a 3-for-4 day at the plate.
  • The three Eagles pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts. Thomas Higgins had three, Anthony DiMola had two, and Danny Madden had five.
