No. 25 Eagles Take Series With 7-4 Win Over South Alabama

GS wins a series in Mobile for the second time ever

MOBILE, Ala. – The 25th-ranked Georgia Southern baseball team took down South Alabama 7-4 behind an early offensive showcase on Saturday night at Eddie Stanky Field. The win gave the Eagles the series win against the Jaguars.

The Eagles (26-12, 13-4 SBC) took the lead in the top of the first inning for the second straight night as a Noah Ledford two-RBI triple brought home Jason Swan and Christian Avant, giving the Eagles an early lead. GS would add on to its lead in the second inning, where a two-RBI single from Swan plated Sam Blancato and Kyler Hultgren to add onto the Eagles' lead. An Avant sacrifice bunt would tack on one more run as Jesse Sherrill came home on the play.

Georgia Southern would continue to put runs on the board in the top of the fourth inning, as a Swan sacrifice fly brought Blancato home for another run. A throwing error by the Jaguars' shortstop would allow Sherrill to score an unearned run and put the Eagles ahead with a big lead, 7-0. South Alabama (22-15, 9-8 SBC) would drive four home in the bottom of the fourth inning, but neither team would bring another runner home for the rest of the night, capping the scoring at 7-4.

The Eagles only used three pitchers on the night, with reigning SBC Pitcher of the Week Jaylen Paden going five innings with five strikeouts against six hits in picking up the win. Jake Martin saw an inning and 2/3 of action, striking out one. Ben Johnson collected his first save of the season, coming in for the final 2.1 innings, not allowing a hit and striking out four South Alabama batters.
