Box Score MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. - A two-out, two-strike bases loaded single drove home the winning runs for Albany in a 2-1 college softball victory over Georgia Southern on Friday afternoon at the Spring Games in Madeira Beach, Fla.
The Great Danes improve to 4-3 on the season with the win, while Georgia Southern falls to 4-8. The Eagles will continue action in the Spring Games on Saturday, taking on Rhode Island at 1:30 p.m. and future Sun Belt opponent Southern Miss at 4 p.m.
Kastin Belogorska for the Eagles and Wendi Hammond of Albany locked up in a fantastic pitcher's duel as each hurler kept the other team off the board for six innings.
In the top of the seventh inning, Georgia Southern got a one-out triple from Janai Conklin. She then scored on a single to short off the bat of Chandler Caldwell to put the Eagles up 1-0.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Great Danes loaded the bases with one out. A fielder's choice to shortstop cut down the tying run at home, but Schuyler Ossman singled to center field to drive in the winning runs and give Albany the victory.
Hammond improved to 2-2 with the complete-game win for Albany, giving up four hits and one run, walking three while striking out five. Belogorska (1-6) took the loss for the Eagles, giving up six hits and two unearned runs while striking out six.
Caldwell went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Eagles offensively at the plate.
