Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to down Georgia Southern, 6-5, in college softball action on Thursday evening in Jacksonville.
The Dolphins improve to 3-12 with the win, while Georgia Southern falls to 4-7. The Eagles continue their Florida trip on Friday, traveling to Madeira Beach for the Spring Games. Georgia Southern opens up the Spring Games by taking on Albany at 4 p.m. on Friday from ROC Park.
Georgia Southern built a 3-0 lead against the Dolphins thanks to some key baserunning. A first and third situation in the second inning saw pinch runner Courtney Ball score from third on a throw down to second. In the top of the third inning, Madi Banks drove in a run with a single, then later scored on a wild pitch to give the Eagles the three-run lead.
In the bottom of the third, the Dolphins plated four runs all via doubles. Kari Holzrichter drove in a pair with a double, while Allison Bratek and Madison Reynolds each added RBI doubles in the frame for the 4-3 lead.
The Eagles came back to take the lead in the sixth thanks to a pair of errors and a wild pitch. Pinch runner Mary Grace Howard scored from third on an error, then later Ashleigh Duty would come home on a wild pitch to make the score 5-4.
JU tied it in the bottom of the seventh on a leadoff double by Reynolds and an RBI single by Victoria Rodebaugh, then Holzrichter drove in the winning run with a two-out double.
Kastin Belogorska (1-4) took the loss for the Eagles in relief, giving up two runs and three hits in four innings of work, walking one and striking out one. Shelby Harpe (1-6) picks up the win in relief for Jacksonville, hurling one shutout inning.
Ashleigh Duty led the Eagles offensively, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base.
