Georgia Southern returns to action at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, hosted by Georgia at UGA Golf Course this weekend. It's the Eagles' first appearance in the event.

The Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic is one of the oldest sporting events in all of women's intercollegiate athletics, with the 2022 tournament serving as its 50th edition. The tourney began in 1973 as the Georgia Invitational before becoming the Women's Southern Intercollegiate from 1977-94. In 1995, the tourney was renamed in honor of Liz Murphey, UGA's Hall of Fame golf coach and longtime Senior Woman Administrator.

The event will serve as a homecoming for Georgia Southern first-year coach Mimi Burke, who served as an assistant coach at Georgia from 2017-21.

The Eagles are coming off a 3 and 2 loss in a match against Clemson Thursday. Georgia Southern's last tournament was the Valspar Augusta Invitational March 13, where Abby Newton led the Eagles by finishing 16th in a field that featured eight teams ranked in the top-50 and 14 individuals ranked in the top-100, according to Golfstat.

Newton makes her 16th start in the lineup for the Eagles, while Sarunchana Rattanasin, Mia Kness and Kaysie Harrelson will be playing in the lineup for the eighth time in their careers. Madison Heideman makes her fourth career start in the lineup.

The Eagles are paired with Alabama for the first two rounds. The group tees off the first hole at 8:30 a.m. Friday and the 10th hole at 12:32 p.m. Saturday.
