Eagles will return to action on Wednesday, traveling to Mercer for a 4 pm doubleheader

MONROE, La. - UL Monroe used a five-run third inning to collect a 10-2 five-inning Sun Belt Conference softball victory over visiting Georgia Southern, claiming the league series on Sunday.

The Warhawks moved to 15-5 overall and 2-1 in the Sun Belt with the win, while Georgia Southern fell to 6-13 overall and 1-2 in the league. Georgia Southern returns to action on Wednesday, visiting in-state rival Mercer for a 4 p.m. non-conference doubleheader against the Bears.

Faith Shirley got the Eagles off to a good start by hitting a solo home run in the top of the first, her sixth round tripper of the year. But ULM answered in the bottom of the first with three runs, on a two-run RBI single by Madelyn Fletcher and a first and third play where Andie Edwards scored from third on a pickoff play to first.

The Warhawks took advantage of a bit of wildness form the Eagle pitchers in a five-run fifth inning. ULM loaded the bases, then scored four runs on bases-loaded walks, and one on a bases-loaded hit batter for the 8-1 lead.

The Eagles got one back in the fourth on a Courtney Ball RBI single, but the Warhawks closed out the win with RBI singles in the fourth and fifth.

Kyleigh Richardson (1-5) took the loss for the Eagles, giving up two hits and three runs - one earned - in one inning of work, walking one while striking out two. Kinsley Kackley (8-3) picked up the win for the Warhawks, giving up three hits and two runs - one earned - in three innings of work, walking three while striking out four.
