KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Georgia Southern baseball fell to No. 19 Tennessee Saturday afternoon, 10-3, at Lindsey Nelson Stadium as the Volunteers claimed the series.
The afternoon was controlled by the pitchers and defense as neither team could get any runs on the board. It wasn't until the sixth inning that both teams got their first scores with the Eagles getting on the board first. Parker Biederer squeezed home Kyler Hultgren on the bunt single for the first run of the game. Christian Avant would bring home Jesse Sherrill on a sac bunt of his own to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Parker Biederer stole home, giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead.
Tennessee would add three runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth to tie it up and then would add two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to make it 5-3. Two home runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, including a grand slam, put the Vols up 10-3, which would become the final.
Jaylen Paden had a strong showing on the day, as he only allowed one hit in his 4.2 innings of action. His hit did not lead to any runs on the afternoon, setting his ERA at 0.00 to begin the season.Â
The Eagles will send out sophomore RHP Ben Johnson on Sunday. Tennessee has not named a starter for the game.
