Eagles Blanked by Volunteers 14-0

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Georgia Southern baseball fell to the No. 19 Tennessee Volunteers on Sunday afternoon, 14-0, in Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The loss gave the Volunteers the opening weekend sweep over the Eagles.

The action got started early on, as the Volunteers got on the board in the bottom of the first inning, with a single that drove in a RBI, ending the first inning at 1-0. The Volunteers would go on to add two more in the third, two more in the fourth, and have a big fifth inning, where they added on four more runs, setting the score at 10-0. The bottom of the seventh saw them add on three more runs, pushing the score to 13-0. Tennessee would add one more in the bottom of the eighth, setting the score and eventual final at 14-0.

Three pitchers saw their first action of the season, as Brooks Gorman, Anthony DiMola, and Jake Martin all came in for relief efforts. Gorman came in during the bottom of the fifth, DiMola came in nine pitches later, and Jake Martin came in after six pitches and one out from DiMola.

The Eagles have not named a starter for their home opener against Georgia Tech.
