CONWAY, S.C. - The Georgia Southern men's tennis team defeated UNC Greensboro 6-1 Saturday in non-conference action.
The Eagles started the day by taking the doubles point, winning on all three courts.
Laurent Julia Calac and
Dimitris Paliouras won their match, 6-3. Juniors
Alexandros Roumpis and
Valentin Dun won their match, 6-4, to secure the 1-0 lead for the Eagles. The Spanish duo of
Tao Castillo and
Pol del Castillo Masich also won their match, with a 7-6 victory in a contested match.
In singles, Julia Calac played a great match and gave the team its second point. Dun won shortly after that with a convincing win, 6-0 7-5. The clinching point came from Court 1, when del Castillo won his second set tie-breaker, 7-4.
Alex Amacher saw action for the first time this semester and came out victorious in two sets, 6-2, 7-6 (4).
Paliouras fell short in his match, but Roumpis finished the single matches with a convincing victory playing at the No. 2 position, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (5).
The Eagles will play tomorrow at noon at Coastal Carolina in the their Sun Belt opener.
