Appalachian State Holds Off Men’s Basketball 65-61

BOONE, N.C. – Adrian Delph collected 19 points, 11 rebounds and three assists, and Appalachian State held off a late run by Georgia Southern for a 65-61 Sun Belt men's basketball win over the Eagles Thursday night in the Holmes Center.

Eagles of the Game 
Andrei Savrasov led four Eagles in double-figure scoring with 13 points to go along with four rebounds. Elijah McCadden chipped in 10 points, five boards and five assists, while Kamari Brown and Cam Bryant each scored 10.

Key Moments
The Eagles (11-11, 4-7)  trimmed a 13-point second-half deficit down to four on a pull-up jumper by McCadden with 55.7 seconds left. The Eagles forced an App miss, and McCadden was fouled getting the rebound and made a free throw with 27.3 seconds left, making the margin 62-59.

The Eagles fouled Justin Forrest, and the senior made 1 of 2 to extend the margin back to four with 23.8 seconds remaining. Kaden Archie drove to the hoop and was fouled on a pull-up jumper, and the senior made both free throws to cut the deficit back to two points with 14 seconds to go. This time the Eagles fouled Delph, who made both with 12 seconds left for the final margin. Archie tried a 3-pointer from the corner on the Eagles' next possession, and App secured the rebound to seal the win.

The Eagles missed five straight shots and were held without a field goal for a stretch of 5:14 midway through the second half. Appalachian State (16-10, 10-3) outscored Georgia Southern 11-2 during the run and went ahead 55-42 on a Donovan Gregory runner with 6:15 to play.

Stats and Notes
- The Eagles held Appalachian State to 34.5 percent shooting for the game, including 33.3 percent in the second half, but shot 36.4 percent from the floor and 4 of 21 from 3-point range at the other end.
- The Mountaineers scored 13 second-chance points off of 14 offensive rebounds.
- McCadden is now five points away from 1,000 for his career.
