STATESBORO - For the second time in school history, Georgia Southern baseball has earned a preseason ranking after Collegiate Baseball released their poll on Tuesday morning. The Eagles will start the season at No. 35 in CB's preseason poll.
Georgia Southern finished the 2022 campaign with a 41-20 record and a No. 16 National Seed, hosting a regional for the first-time in school history. The Eagles made an appearance in the national polls for the first time in nine years on April 18, when D1Baseball ranked GS at No. 25, Baseball America slotted the Eagles at No. 19, and the National College Baseball Writers Association placed the Eagles at No. 29. This is the Eagles second time earning a preseason ranking in program history, with the first time coming in 1991. The Eagles were ranked at No. 19 by Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America to begin the 1991 campaign after its second trip to the College World Series in 1990.
Georgia Southern opens the season at home against West Virginia on February 17 for a three-game series. 16 of the Eagles first 20 contests will be in the confines of J.I. Clements Stadium.
