
PREVIEW: Eagles Split Up for a Pair of Men's Tennis Invitationals

STATESBORO - Georgia Southern men's tennis will take part in its final two invitational tournaments this weekend before concluding fall play. Four Eagles will head to Macon, Georgia to take part in the Mercer Gridiron Classic, while six Eagles will head to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to take part in the Wake Forest Invitational. Both tournaments start on Friday, October 28 and end on Sunday, October 30.
The four Eagles heading to Mercer are Valentin Dun, Jacob Mitchell, Alexandros Roumpis and Alex Suk. Roumpis and Mitchell both took part in the ITA Regionals in Tallahassee, Florida. In doubles, the duo defeated a pair from UCF to advance before falling to a pair from Florida. In singles qualifying action, Roumpis finished second in the top bracket of the qualifying draw.
The six Eagles heading to Wake Forest are Alex Amacher, Judson Blair, Pol del Castillo, Laurent Julia Calac, Matt Mitchell, and Dimitris Paliouras. Del Castillo was part of the main draw in singles action in Tallahassee, where he advanced to the second round before falling to a competitor from Florida. Blair and Paliouras both went into the qualifiying draw, where Paliouras won his backet to advance to the main draw, where he made it to the third round before falling in three sets to a competitor from North Florida. In doubles action, Blair and del Castillo combined to reach the semi-final of the doubles draw before falling to a pair from UGA.
After these two tournaments, the Eagles will end fall action. The first match of the 2023 season is on january 20 at Flagler College. The first home match is eight days later on January 28 against The Citadel.
