Arkansas State Tops Men’s Basketball 74-56

The Eagles return home to face Texas State and UTA next weekend.

JONESBORO, Ark. – Norchad Omier tallied 18 points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots, and Arkansas State made 19 of 20 from the free-throw line on its way to a 74-56 Sun Belt men's basketball win over Georgia Southern Saturday afternoon in First National Bank Arena.

Eagles of the Game 
Andrei Savrasov finished with 13 points and six rebounds, and Kaden Archie collected season highs of 12 points and six boards. Prince Toyambi totaled eight points and six rebounds. 

Key Moments 
Arkansas State (10-3, 1-0) led by five at halftime and scored the first five points of the second frame on a Marquis Eaton triple and an Omier dunk. The Red Wolves extended the lead to 22 points with a 15-3 run that made the score 59-37 with 6:06 to play. Georgia Southern (7-6, 0-2) was held to 1 for 6 from the floor during the stretch, while the Red Wolves went 4 for 6 from the field and made eight straight free throws at the other end.

Georgia Southern trailed by 13 late in the first half, but five different Eagles scored in an 11-0 run that made it a two-point game with 2:11 remaining. The Red Wolves halted the run with a steal in the backcourt and a dunk and went on to lead 27-22 at the break.

- The Red Wolves tallied 12 steals, forced 20 turnovers and netted 20 fastbreak points.
- Georgia Southern shot a season-low 36.7 percent from the field. 
- Arkansas State outscored the Eagles by nine at the free-throw line and shot free throws on 6 of 9 possessions at one point in the second half.
- Georgia Southern was without two starters because of COVID-19 protocols.
- The Eagles played Thursday night at Little Rock, while Arkansas State played its first game since Dec. 21.
