FLORENCE, S.C. - Georgia Southern junior Nadja Meier captured the Florence ITF 25k Pre-Qualifier singles draw on Sunday, earning a spot in the main draw in the upcoming ITF event in October.

Four Eagles participated in the event in both singles and doubles. Three of the four Eagles advanced past the Round of 16 and into the Quarterfinals, while Meier won all four of her matches to capture the pre-qualifier, downing Maria Kononova - the all-time leader in singles wins for the University of North Texas - in a third-set tiebreak.

"This was a really good weekend for the Eagles," Georgia Southern Head Women's Tennis Coach Sean McCaffrey said. "We definitely learned a lot in doubles, and I know the ladies are motivated to get after things when we practice next. Everyone found moments to shine throughout the event, but the weekend was particularly amazing for Nadja. She put up such a fantastic fight throughout the singles tournament and especially in the final, after dropping her first set so convincingly. She never gave up and kept on fighting!"

The Eagles will be in action next weekend in Hilton Head, S.C., with four more players competing in the Hilton Head ITF 25k Pre-Qualifier.
