TROY, Ala. - First-place Troy opened up a three-game Sun Belt Conference series against visiting Georgia Southern with a 5-0 win on Friday evening at the Troy Softball Complex.
The Trojans (23-6, 7-0 SBC) remained unbeaten in league play with the win, while Georgia Southern fell to 7-15 overall and 0-6 in the Sun Belt. The two teams will wrap up their three-game series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
Troy opened up the scoring in the first on a two-run single by Anslee Finch. The Trojans doubled their lead in the third as Candela Figueroa tripled in a pair of runs to make the score 4-0. Troy then capped the scoring in the fourth on a Jade Sinness solo home run.
Leanna Johnson (13-3) limited the Eagles to two hits in hurling the shutout win, walking three while striking out 14. Kyleigh Richardson (2-4) took the loss for the Eagles, giving up two hits and two runs in 2/3rds of an inning of work, walking two.
Allyssah Mullis had the Eagles' two hits on the day, extending her current hitting streak to five games.
