Late Home Runs Lead Charleston Southern To DH Sweep Of Eagles

Buccaneers take both games from Georgia Southern, 8-7 and 4-1, on Tuesday

STATESBORO - Charleston Southern softball used a pair of late home runs to take a doubleheader from host Georgia Southern on Tuesday evening at Eagle Field. The Buccaneers won game one, 8-7, and took game two, 4-1.

Charleston Southern improves to 10-17 with the pair of wins, while Georgia Southern falls to 9-20. The Eagles return to Sun Belt Conference action on Saturday, hosting Appalachian State in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Eagle Field. It will be Senior Day as Georgia Southern will honor four seniors - Mekhia Freeman, Alia Booth, Shayla Smith and Harlee Rewis in a post-game ceremony.

GAME ONE: Charleston Southern 8, Georgia Southern 7

Charleston Southern's Ashley Meckley snapped a 7-all tie in the top of the seventh inning with a solo home run to left field to give the Buccaneers an 8-7 win in game one.

Charleston Southern took a 3-2 lead in the second inning on an error and a two-run triple by Katelyn Norris.

Georgia Southern went back in front in the top of the second on an RBI double by Alia Booth and a sacrifice fly by Shayla Smith that made the score 4-3. Charleston Southern ran a squeeze play to tie the score at 4-4 in the top of the third.

Sophomore Janai Conklin's first career home run in the fifth would tie the score at 7-all for the Eagles.
