Eagles Cap Round Robin With 2-1 Win Over College Of Charleston

STATESBORO - Sophomore Bailee Wilson launched a two-run home run and sophomore Aaliyah Garcia hurled a complete-game three-hitter to lead Georgia Southern softball to a 2-1 win over the College of Charleston in the final game of the 2021 Eagle Round Robin on Sunday afternoon at Eagle Field.

Georgia Southern (5-8) finished the weekend tournament action with a 4-1 record, with three of the four wins coming by one run. The College of Charleston fell to 2-10 on the season with the loss. The Eagles will be next in action on Wednesday, traveling to South Carolina for a 6 p.m. matchup with the Gamecocks.

In the third inning, Eagle freshman Madi Banks reached on a throwing error, then one batter later, Wilson launched a shot over the center field wall for her first home run of the season and the 2-0 lead.

The College of Charleston got one back in the top of the fifth inning as Lauren Lozano hit a two-out solo shot to left, cutting the deficit to one.

Sophomore Aaliyah Garcia (2-2) retired the next six batters in a row, and gave up a two-out single in the seventh before retiring the Cougars' Noel Dominguez on a comebacker to the circle for the complete game victory.

Garcia gave up just three hits and one run in seven innings, striking out four in going the distance. Cougar pitcher Payton Lemire (1-2) took the loss, giving up six hits and two unearned runs in six innings, walking one and striking out four.

Wilson finished the day 2-for-3 with two RBI to lead the Eagles offensively.
