STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern women's golf team made a number of memories during its Spring Break trip to Arizona last week.
The Eagles took a jeep tour to take in the beautiful sites of Sedona, hiked Devil's Bridge and explored the Grand Canyon in addition to competing in the Red Rocks Invitational last weekend. The trip was originally scheduled for last season but was canceled due to COVID.
The Eagles used the trip to bond and build team chemistry before the stretch run of the season. GS competes in the Chattanooga Classic March 29-30, before traveling to the Sun Belt Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida, April 18-20.
"We have been so excited to have this trip for a few years now, and I am so happy it worked out!," said Georgia Southern coach Emily Kuhfeld. "It was a bunch of 'firsts' for many of the girls on the team and a wonderful overall experience where we had a lot of fun and all bonded together. This is a very special group of really good people, and making special memories like this with them is a huge part of my 'why' for being a coach! We are so grateful to Eagle Nation for helping us get there!"
Eagle Favs
Sarah Noonan: My favorite part of the trip was just the time I got to spend with the team. It was really special to go see all these amazing things in Arizona, but what made it even better was being able to do it with my close friends on the team. The best part for me was playing games with everyone the evening of my birthday at our house.
Madison Heideman: My favorite part of the Arizona trip was when we landed in Flagstaff and it was snowing. Sarah and I spent hours playing in the snow for the first time, and it was just the best start to the trip.
Emma Bell: My favorite part of Arizona was when we went to the Grand Canyon! Being able to experience that with my team was awesome!
Kaysie Harrelson: My favorite part about Arizona was spending time with family and friends at the Grand Canyon and being able to see all the wonderful creations out there.
Abby Newton: This trip was an experience that I will never forget! Getting to visit the Grand Canyon with my teammates was my favorite part of the trip!
Ella Ofstedahl: My favorite memory was the pink jeep tour. It was so fun, and the scenery was beautiful.
Savanah Satterfield: My two favorite moments were going on our hike to see all of the beautiful scenery in Arizona as well as get a nice workout in! My second favorite memory was having game night at the house with everyone and just having a great time with each other! Arizona was beautiful and was an amazing trip!
Assistant Coach Kelly Welker: There were so many amazing moments during our time in Arizona, but my favorite part would have to be getting to see the Grand Canyon for the very first time. It was definitely a bucket list thing for me. Taking in all of the beauty that surrounded us with the team was a memory that I will never forget. Our team is special in that they all care so deeply for each other, and it really makes trips like this such a blast to be a part of. We are so grateful to all of the generous donors who helped make this trip happen and provided a wonderful experience for our student-athletes!
