TROY, Ala. - Tyler Owens worked six and a third innings of one run baseball in a 8-1 victory to open up Sun Belt Conference play Friday night. Georgia Southern improved to 10-6 on the season and 1-0 in conference play, while the Trojans fall to 8-9 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.

The Eagles got on the board first in the top half of the first inning, scoring two off of a Christian Avant double to left center. Mason McWhorter doubled to left in the second to score Parker Biederer to increase the lead. 

Troy would respond in the bottom of the second, before the Eagles scored five straight runs to close out the evening. Parker Biederer laid down a sacrifice bunt in the top of the third to score an Eagle run. In the fifth, Matt Anderson would single to left field to add a sixth run. In the seventh and eighth, Biederer and Curry would single to combine for the final three runs that the Eagles would score.

Georgia Southern will look to take the series tomorrow afternoon against the Troy Trojans at Riddle-Pace Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. EST.

• Georgia Southern has now won eight of their last nine games, including a four game winning streak following Friday's victory.
• Tyler Owens' six and a third innings were the highest of the season by an Eagle pitcher. Owens added seven strikeouts and allowed just one run in his victory. 
• Jarrett Brown went 1-for-2 with three walks and two runs scored on Friday.
• Parker Biederer went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored.
• Mason McWhorter added another RBI to his season total, leading the Eagles with 21. 
• Jordan Jackson made his first relief appearance working two and two thirds innings of three hit baseball. Jackson record three strikeouts to add to his line.
