STATESBORO, Ga. - Ben Johnson earned his first collegiate victory on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Blazers 9-5 to complete the sweep over UAB. The Eagles improve to 9-6 on the season, while UAB falls to 6-8.
Nick Jones earned his fifth save of the year, working the final two innings of play. He allowed two hits and struck out three batters. Mason McWhorter added two more RBIs on the day in a 1-for-3 effort. The Eagles took the lead in the bottom of the first thanks to one of the two RBIs by McWhorter on a sacrifice fly to right field.
The Blazers would answer in the second to tie the ballgame, before Georgia Southern would regain the lead in the bottom half and never surrender it after. Noah Ledford hit his fifth home run of the season on Sunday in the eighth inning, a solo-shot to right field over the Blue Monster.
