MOBILE, Ala. – Gedi Juozapaitis netted 18 points, and Georgia Southern held South Alabama to one field goal in the extra session to earn an 84-75 overtime win over the Jaguars in Sun Belt men's basketball action Friday night in the Mitchell Center.
Georgia Southern (10-6, 4-3) led by 15 points after a
Prince Toyambi layup with 5:56 to play, but Michael Flowers, who came into the game ranked fifth in the country in scoring, got loose for nine points in the Jags' 19-4 run to finish regulation.
The senior made a 3-pointer from the top of the key to make it a one-possession game with 58.4 seconds left and after an Eagle turnover, buried another triple from the wing to tie the score 71-71 with 17.5 seconds remaining.
Kaden Archie had his fallaway jumper come up short as the buzzer sounded to signal the end of regulation.
Georgia Southern clamped down on the defensive end in overtime, holding South Alabama (8-8, 2-5) to 1 for 8 from the field with two turnovers in the period. Archie drove to the hoop for a bucket as the Eagles quickly built a five-point cushion. Toyambi made two free throws for an 82-73 lead with 57.7 seconds to go before Flowers made the Jags' lone field goal of the period.
Zack Bryant made two free throws with 32 seconds left for the final margin.

Cam Bryant all made three 3-pointers in the contest, and Archie finished 7 of 10 from the field to tally 17 points along with three boards, four assists and three blocked shots.
Zack Bryant finished with 15 points, four assists and three rebounds, and
Cam Bryant posted 13 points, three rebounds and two assists.
Elijah McCadden led the team with nine rebounds and added four points and three assists without a turnover in 38 minutes of action.
Key Moments
The Eagles used a 16-4 run, scoring the last three of the first half and opening the second stanza with a 13-4 spurt. Juozapaitis was fouled attempting a triple with 0.6 seconds left in the first period and made all three freebies, and the junior nailed a pair of 3-pointers in the first five minutes of the second half.
Zack Bryant made two straight triples, and
Kamari Brown added another in an 11-4 spurt that gave GS its 15-point advantage with 5:56 to play.
Stats and Notes
- GS shot 52 percent for the game and made 18 of 33 field goals in the second half and overtime.
- The Eagles notched 18 assists, giving them 10-plus assists in 11 straight games for the first time since the 2007-08 season, when they had 10-plus in 17 games in a row.
- GS buried a season-high 14 3-pointers and has made 10-plus 3-pointers in four straight games.
