Men’s Basketball Evens Season Series with South Alabama

STATESBORO – Elijah McCadden collected 12 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocked shots, and Georgia Southern held South Alabama scoreless for nearly nine minutes in the second half to earn a 62-49 Sun Belt Conference men's basketball victory over the Jaguars Saturday afternoon in Hanner Fieldhouse.

Eagles of the Game 
Zack Bryant tallied 12 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals, and Eric Boone posted 11 points four rebounds and two steals. Andrei Savrasov finished with nine points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots. It was McCadden's second career double-double, and both have come this season. 

Key Moments
South Alabama (7-4, 1-1) hit three consecutive 3-pointers to erase an eight-point deficit and take a 39-38 lead, its first of the game, 5:18 into the second half. GS scored the next 11 while holding the Jags scoreless over the next 8:59 of the contest. The Eagles (7-4, 1-1) held the Jags to 0-12 from the field and forced five turnovers during the stretch, and Bryant's 3-pointer from the wing have GS a 49-39 cushion with 6:30 to play.

The Jags got the margin to eight points on three occasions, but that was as close as they would get. Georgia Southern held South Alabama to just three baskets on its last 21 shots of the game. 

Stats and Notes
- The Eagles held the Jags to 29 percent shooting in the second half and to 40 percent for the game.
- GS had a season-high seven blocked shots in the contest. 
- Georgia Southern ends a three-game losing skid against South Alabama, dating back to last season.
- The teams play two more in Mobile Jan. 22 and 23.
