The Eagles tied for fourth in the final standings and will host a Sun Belt Tourney game Monday.
NEW ORLEANS – Georgia Southern guards Quan Jackson and Ike Smith have been named All-Sun Belt, the league announced today.
Jackson was named second-team All-Sun Belt, earning all-league honors for the second consecutive season. The redshirt junior ranks eighth in the country and first in the SBC in steals per game (2.6/gm) and ranks 16th in the league in scoring (13.4 ppg) and ninth in minutes played (32.7/gm). In conference play, he ranked seventh in the league in scoring (15.1 ppg), fifth in field goal percentage and first in steals (2.5/gm). Jackson scored in double figures in 22 games, scored 20-plus points seven times, and his 79 steals rank third on the GS single-season chart. The only Eagle to start in all 31 games, he scored his 1,000th career point at Louisiana Feb. 8 and was named Sun Belt Player of the Week Feb. 10.
Smith was named third-team All-Sun Belt, earning all-conference honors for the second time in his career as he was named to the league's first team in 2017. The redshirt senior is tied for ninth in the Sun Belt in scoring (14.2 ppg) and ranks 15th in rebounding (5.6/gm). He has scored in double figures in 22 games and scored 20-plus points seven times. One of nine active NCAA Division I players with over 1,900 points and 600 rebounds, Smith ranks second on the Georgia Southern Division I scoring list and 16th on the Sun Belt career scoring list. He was named Sun Belt Player of the Week Dec. 30.
Georgia Southern tied for fourth in the Sun Belt standings, the fifth time the Eagles have finished in the top-5 during their six-year tenure in the league. The Eagles are one of just two teams in the Sun Belt to reach double-digit conference wins in each of the last six seasons (UTA) and are one of just 26 teams in the country that have won 10-plus league games in each of the last six seasons.
Georgia Southern will be the fifth seed in the upcoming Sun Belt Tournament and will host a second-round game Monday, March 9, at 7 p.m. in Hanner Fieldhouse. It will be the first conference tourney game in Hanner since the 1992 TAAC Championship game, a 92-82 Eagle win over Georgia State. The Eagles face the winner of No. 8 Louisiana vs. No. 9 Arkansas State, which play their first-round game Saturday at noon ET in the Cajundome.
