Men’s Golf Sits in First Midway through the Colleton River Collegiate

Mason Williams shot a 68 to lead the Eagles in the first round.

BLUFFTON, S.C. – Mason Williams shot a 68 in the first round, and the Georgia Southern men's golf team leads the pack midway through the second round of the Colleton River Collegiate at the Colleton River Club Pete Dye Course.

Play was suspended due to darkness with the Eagles (-10) holding a six-shot advantage over second-place Iowa State (-4). Notre Dame (+3), ranked 12th in the country, is third, Memphis (+7) is fourth and Kansas State (+8)  is fifth. The teams have about two holes left in the second round, which they will finish tomorrow before continuing on to the third and final round.

Williams was tied for first with three others after the first round as all five Eagles in the lineup were in the top-20. Jake Maples, Brett Barron and Colin Bowles were tied for 12th after shooting 71s, and Ben Carr's 72 had him tied for 20th. Carr and Maples each posted a 70 in the second round, and Bowles shot a 72. 

The story
Williams carded four birdies in a bogey-free first round, finishing the morning with eight consecutive pars. Maples played his last 11 holes 2-under, and Bowles played his first 16 holes 3-under. Barron made four birdies in the round, and Carr led the team with five birdies. 

Carr played his final 11 holes 3-under in the second round, and Bowles rattled off nine straight pars before making birdie on the ninth and finishing with three more pars. Maples posted four birdies, made 10 consecutive pars and played his last three holes 1-under.
