Eagles Clipped by No. 19 Georgia Tech Tuesday

STATESBORO, Ga. – On a foggy night in Statesboro, Ga. the Georgia Southern baseball team fell to No. 19 Georgia Tech 4-3, after the Yellow Jacket's scored twice in the final frame to take the lead. GS falls to 3-1 on the season, while Georgia Tech improves to 3-1.

Hayden Harris was pegged with the loss, going 1 and 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on two hits. Steven Curry finished the evening 1-for-3, scoring two runs and walking two times. Noah Searcy collected two doubles for a 2-fo-4 night.

Georgia Tech opened up the scoring in the first inning, on a sacrifice fly to left, before the scored three unanswered runs. GS scored two in the bottom of the third on a Mason McWhorter single to right center field. In the Bottom of the fifth, Austin Thompson reached on a throwing error by the shortstop, allowing Curry to plate his second run of the ballgame.

Georgia Tech went on to score in the sixth and ninth inning to tie and take the lead, before shutting the door and defeating the Eagles on Tuesday.

TOP 1st | GS 0 – GT 1 | Michael Guldberg flied out to left field and the sacrifice fly scored the first run of the game.
BOTTOM 3rd | GS 2 – GT 1 | Mason McWhorter singled to right center field and advanced to second on a throwing error by the center fielder. Steven Curry and Christian Avant scored to give the Eagles a lead.
BOTTOM 5th | GS 3 – GT 1 | Austin Thompson reached on a throwing error by the shortstop, scoring Steven Curry.
TOP 6th | GS 3 – GT 2 | Stephen Reid singled down the right field line, scoring Drew Compton to cut into the Eagles lead.
TOP 9th | GS 3 – GT 4 | Tres Gonzalez reached on a fielder's choice to tie the ballgame. Later in the inning, Guldberg singled to center field to give the Yellow Jackets the lead.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Steven Curry finished the day 1-for-3, scoring two runs and walking twice. His lone hit was a double down the line in left.
  • Starter Tyler Owens received a no decision after four innings of work. Owens allowed four hits and one run, striking out five batters.
  • Jacob Parker threw the only clean frame for the Eagles in the ballgame, allowing one hit in one inning of work.
  • The Eagles left nine batters on base, including a bases loaded situation in the eighth inning.
 
UP NEXT
The Eagles will travel to Greenville, North Carolina to take on the No. 21 ranked East Carolina University Pirates. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 4 p.m.
