Men’s Basketball Falls 73-60 at FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Caleb Catto made five 3-pointers and scored a team-high 19 points to lead FGCU to a 73-60 men's basketball win over Georgia Southern Tuesday night in Alico Arena.

Eagles of the Game 
Eric Boone had 17 first-half points, including four triples, and finished with a game-high 23 points to go along with five rebounds and two assists. Elijah McCadden made 8 of 10 from the charity stripe on his way to 16 points to go along with eight rebounds and three assists. Zack Bryant chipped in 12 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Key Moments
GS (6-3) trailed by 17 with 13:42 to play but got back into the contest by holding FGCU scoreless for 4:42 and netting 10 points in a row at the other end, including eight in a row at the free-throw line. McCadden's layup made the score 51-44 with nine minutes remaining. 

Catto nailed a triple to push the lead back to 10, and the score was 64-54 when GS made its final run. McCadden scored a runner in the lane, and Boone drew a charge at the defensive end to get the ball back. The junior was bumped driving to the hoop and made two free throws to trim the margin to 64-58 with 3:22 left, but that was as close as it would get. FGCU (5-2) finished the contest with a 9-2 run, and GS went cold, missing four of its final five shots of the contest.

After leading by seven at halftime, FGCU used a 10-2 run to open a 51-34 advantage with 13:42 to play. Cyrus Largie scored the final seven points of the run and capped it with a triple from the wing.

GS had two stretches of seven minutes without scoring a field goal – one in each half – and was held to a season-low 28.1 percent shooting from the field.
GS committed 16 turnovers that turned into 22 points for FGCU.
GS corralled 17 offensive rebounds and scored 15 second-chance points.
The Eagles shot 22 of 28 from the free-throw line (79 percent).
It was Georgia Southern's third game in the last four days and their sixth in the last 12 days.
