Saturday's game will count as an exhibition for the Mariners ... Coastal Georgia knocked off Ave Maria, 78-59, on Saturday in a Sun Conference matchup at home. Kaliyah Little led the Mariners with a game-high 21 points, while Solrun Gisladottir hit 5-of-10 three-pointers en route to 17 point total ... The head coach for Coastal Georgia is Roger Hodge, who is in his fifth season with the Mariners. There is a Georgia Southern connection for Coach Hodge as he was the head coach of Armstrong State Unviersity from 2000-08, leading the Pirates to a Peach Belt Conference championship in 2002-03. His point guard of that Armstrong team was Anita Griffin, now Anita Howard - head coach of the Georgia Southern women's basketball team. The Georgia Board of Regents consolidated Armstrong State and Georgia Southern in 2017 ... Overall, Georgia Southern leads the series, 2-0, defeating the Mariners by a 68-63 score on Nov. 13, 2017, and by a 68-46 score on Dec. 14, 2018. The two teams met last year in an exhibition contest for both teams and Georgia Southern won that meeting, 106-69.
