Montoya and Ruiz Guide Eagles Past Trojans on Senior Day

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern women's soccer picked up three crucial points against the Trojans on Sunday afternoon in Statesboro with a 3-1 victory at Eagle Field. The Eagles improved to 3-8-1 on the season and 3-5-1 in conference play, while the Trojans fall to 1-8-1 on the season and 1-8-1 in conference play.

Marcela Montoya got things started early for the second time against Troy, when she won a header off a pass from Kristin Sandifer and put it into the back of the net in the 5th minute. Just 15 minutes later Mia Tessier would answer for the Trojans after a scramble in front of the net.

Late in the first half, Montoya pressed the defenders and fought her way through three Trojans to deflect a ball off a Troy player into the back of the net for her second goal. The 34th minute goal gave the Eagles the lead heading into the final 45 minutes. Just seven minutes into the second half, Deborah Ruiz pressured Gabrielle Cossette in net and was able to deflect her clear attempt into the bottom right corner for her second goal of year.
