STATESBORO – Georgia Southern freshmen and junior student-athletes participated in Finance Seminars Tuesday night at Nessmith-Lane. The event is part of the Eagles in Transition/Life Beyond Sport Program.
Representatives of Core Credit Union Bank presented student-athletes with job scenarios, and they had to create a personal monthly financial budget. Job income ranged from $40,000-75,000, and student-athletes had to account for expenses from that gross salary, such as taxes, mortgage/rent and auto payments, and finalize a budget. Most were surprised at just how far their "paychecks" went.
The Eagles in Transition/Life Beyond Sport Program focuses on the holistic development of Eagle student-athletes through professional, personal, leadership development, financial education and community service.
Next up on the docket is a Resume Boot Camp for sophomores Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Nessmith-Lane.
