STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern cross country team begins the 2019 season at home Saturday with the first ever Eagles Cross Country Challenge at Seventh Mile Farm.
Up to six schools are expected to compete at the course located roughly seven miles south of the Georgia Southern main campus. Teams expected include Brewton Parker, Claflin, Paine, South Carolina State and Georgia Wesleyan. The women will run a 5K at 9:00 a.m. with the men to follow around 9:45 with an 8K.
The season was originally set to begin on Sept. 7 at the Charleston Southern Meet but was canceled due to weather caused by hurricane Dorian.
The 2018 season saw the Eagles compete at home for the first time in school history as it hosted the Eagle Invitational on Oct 13. In that contest, GS dominated taking first as a team and claiming five of the top six finishes including Merabu Nagwandala's gold. Of the five scorers from last season's home meet, the Eagles return three to the 2019 squad in Nagwandala (1st), Ellunde Montgomery (5th), and Kaitlin Rocker (6th).
Regardless of its short history, Georgia Southern owns the majority of the women's top-five performances at the course:

Following the meet, the team remains home for the GATA Classic on Oct. 5 before wrapping up the regular season Oct. 11 at the Florida State Pre Meet.
