STORYLINES
- Georgia Southern enters the final 10 games of the 2019 regular season this weekend with a trip to Troy for a three game weekend series. The Eagles lead the East Division by a half game of Coastal Carolina and App State. Troy sits two games behind the Eagles with nine league games remaining.
- The Eagles dropped a 6-2 decision to South Alabama in the series finale last Sunday. The Eagles were stymied by the Jags' Drake Nightengale who recorded 11 strikeouts. Georgia Southern was held to just four hits in the finale.
- The Eagles trail 7-11 in the all-time series against Troy. Georgia Southern is 6-6 against the Trojans since the Eagles joined the Sun Bet, and have taken two of three in each of the last two weekend series. The series dates back to May 23, 1963 when the Eagles took a 8-0 win in the NAIA Area 7 Tournament in Statesboro.
- May 1st was a big night for the Eagles who cleaned up at the 2019 Guspy Awards. The Eagles took home three individual awards and the Community Service Award.
- Mason McWhorter had a big Saturday Night, in game two against South Alabama, driving in seven runs with a pair of home runs to propel the Eagles to a 16-12 win.
- After losing eight straight to South Alabama, Georgia Southern took two of three against the Jags to hold on to first place in the East Division.
- The Eagles took their second-straight series win over Coastal Carolina on Easter Weekend. The Eagles are 4-2 in the newly renovated Springs Brooks Stadium. The ballpark will play host to the 2019 Sun Belt Tournament.
- Seth Shuman crossed a milestone in the win over ULM. He reached 200 career strikeouts and is now in striking distance of joining the Georgia Southern career top-10 strikeouts list. Shuman has 230 career Ks and needs 18 more punch outs to reach Tod Lee's (1995-97) total of 248.
- Among the many tools in his kit, Steven Curry has shown a knack for wearing pitches. In his 158 career games with the Eagles, Steven has been hit 57 times to rank third in school history, only three behind J.R. Revere's career total. In 2019, Curry has been hit 15 times with eight coming in the weekend finale.
- Six has been the magic number over the last six years for Georgia Southern Baseball with a 138-20 record when scoring six or more runs. The Eagles are 20-4 this season when scoring six or more.
