STATESBOROÂ - Georgia Southern Baseball scored seven runs in the sixth inning for the second-straight game en route to a 13-3 win over Mercer on Wednesday night. The Eagles tallied a season-high 15 hits in the win, running roughshod over the Bears to snap a two-game skid against Mercer.

SCORING INNINGS
Top 1st - GS 0 - MU 1 - Mercer struck out three times in the first inning, but an error, a stolen base and a single to left scored a Mercer run and gave the visitors an early lead.
Bottom 2nd - GS 3 - MU 1 - Georgia Southern got three runs in the second inning to take control of the game.
Matt Anderson and
Steven Curry drove in runs as the Eagles scored three off two hits and two errors.
Bottom 4th - GS 4 - MU 1 - Nolan Tressler laced a double to the gap in left, plating Anderson who reached earlier in the inning off a walk.
Top 5th - GS 4 - MU 3 - Mercer scored two runs off a hit and an Eagle error in the fifth, chasing starting pitcher
Tyler Owens from the game after four and a third innings of work. Relief pitcher
Cole Whitney struck out the next two batters to strand the tying run at third base.
Bottom 5th - GS 6 - MU 3 - The Eagles held serve in the home half of the fifth, scoring a pair off RBI singles from
Austin Thompson and
Jason Swan.
Bottom 6th - GS 13 - MU 3 - A walk, hit batter and a single loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth inning.
Tyler Martin cleared the bags with a double off the wall in left. After a pitching change,
Noah Ledford lifted the first pitch off the wall in center, good for a double and an RBI.
Mason McWhorter lashed a ground rule double to drive in another run, while one more crossed on a wild pitch. The inning's seventh run crossed when
Jason Swan reached on an error.
GAME NOTES
 - Starting pitcher
Tyler Owens threw four and a third innings, allowing three runs, one earned off three hits. He fanned seven while walking two, but could not qualify for the win because he didn't pitch the required five innings.

Tyler Martin made his return to the sharp end of the Eagle lineup on Wednesday, starting in the No. 3 slot for the first time this season. The redshirt senior went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs.

Cole Whitney took his first win of the year, working an inning and a third of shutout relief. He fanned two and got out of a jam in the fifth inning.

Austin Hohm made his debut for the Eagles, working a scoreless ninth inning. He needed 13 pitches to finish off the Bears, retiring the final out on strikes.
