Baseball Falls to Little Rock on Saturday, 11-10

Eagles post six extra base hits in the loss

STATESBORO - Georgia Southern Baseball led Little Rock 8-1 after three innings, but 10 unanswered runs by the Trojans handed the Eagles an 11-10 loss in 12 innings. It was the second time going to extra innings in as many nights. The Eagles and Trojans close out the weekend series on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. - It is a Sunday Funday presented by The Clubhouse.

SCORING INNINGS
TOP 1st | LR 1 - GS 0 | Little Rock doubled down the left field line to start the game, converting it into an unearned run thanks to a throwing error
BOT 1st | LR 1 - GS 3 | Steven Curry continued his hot hitting in the bottom of the first, registering a single to left. A Mason McWhorter double to right plated two runs while Noah Searcy drove in another run with a single through the right side.
BOT 3rd | LR 1 - GS 8 | The Eagles got five runs off seven hits and a Little Rock error. McWhorter drove in the inning's first run with a double to left. A sacrifice fly from Austin Thompson brought in the inning's second run to make it a 5-1 lead. RBIs from Matt Anderson, a triple by Mason Miller and a single by Curry plated three more runs to put the lead at 8-1.
TOP 4th | LR 2 - GS 8 | Little Rock started whittling away at the Eagle lead in the fourth inning with Troy Anderson's first home run of the day.
TOP 5th | LR 7 - GS 8 | A three-run home run from Anderson, his second of the day, punctuated a five run fifth inning that cut the Eagle lead to just one.
TOP 9th | LR 8 - GS 8 | A strikeout and a fly out to start the ninth reduced the Trojans to their final out, but two walks and a single to left scored the tying run to send the game to extra innings at 8-8.
TOP 12th | LR 12 - GS 8 | Little Rock took advantage of a leadoff hit batter, followed by a one out single that sparked a three run 12th inning of three hits.
BOT 12th | LR 12 - GS 10 | The Eagles were reduced to their final out with two quick strikeouts in the 12th, but a Noah Ledford pinch hit double gave the Eagles new life. Curry got his fourth hit of the game in the inning to drive in Ledford from second, while Tyler Martin drove in another run with two outs. A ground ball to first base, however, ended the game.

NOTES
- Curry's four-hit day matched a career-high, set last year against College of Charleston. He drove in two runs and scored two on the day.
- Georgia Southern's 19 hits in the game was a new season-high, surpassing the 15 hit games against Mercer and UNC Asheville. The Eagles' five doubles is also good for a new season high.
- Braden Hays worked four and two thirds innings, coming one out shy of leaving as the pitcher of record, but could not get out of the fifth inning. He allowed 10 hits and allowed seven runs, one earned with two strikeouts.
- Nick Jones delivered his best career outing, tossing three innings, allowing one run off three hits. He struck out six batters, a new career-best.
- Cole Whitney fanned six batters over two and two thirds innings of work, but allowed the tying run in the ninth and two of the three runs in the 12th inning to take the loss and fall to 1-2 on the year.

Georgia Southern will make an appearance in Savannah on April 3rd for a non-conference game against College of Charleston at Historic Grayson Stadium. Tickets are on sale now for the game at GSEagles.com/Tickets. Due to high demand, fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance for the 6 p.m. game.

UP NEXT
Sunday's series finale is a Sunday Funday presented by The Clubhouse. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. in the rubber match of the series. Daniel Collins will get the ball for the Eagles. Both of Collins' wins this season have come at the friendly confines.
