STORYLINES
- Georgia Southern plays its second of three cross-division series to open league play when Little Rock comes to Statesboro for a three game set. The games close a run of five games in six days for the Eagles after midweek contests at The Citadel and Charleston Southern.
- Georgia Southern's 17-game winning streak against Charleston Southern came to an end on a sharply hit ball up the middle with the bases loaded in the ninth. The Buccaneers took the 3-2 win on a cold and wet first day of spring in the Low Country.
- The Eagles lead the all-time series with Little Rock 19-8, taking both games a year ago in Arkansas after the opener was called due to rain and arctic conditions. Georgia Southern has taken the last four games of the series.
- Georgia Southern's trip to the Lone Star State was beneficial for junior Mason McWhorter who was phenomenal in the three game series. He hit .545 with a 1.455 slugging percentage. He opened the weekend on the bench, coming on as a pinch hitter and blasting a two-run home run. He got the start on Saturday, going 2-for-4 as the Eagles evened the series. On Sunday, Mason had a 3-for-5 game with three runs scored, three RBIs and a pair of home runs. He hit home runs in back-to-back leadoff chances in the 7th and 8th innings of the 15-7 win.
- Among the many tools in his kit, Steven Curry has shown a knack for wearing pitches. In his 132 career games with the Eagles, Steven has been hit 51 times to rank four in school history, only seven behind J.R. Revere's career total. In 2019, Curry has been hit nine times with six coming in the weekend finale.
- With the series win over UT Arlington, Georgia Southern made a big jump in the RPI, moving from 61st to 29th. The move corresponded with big moves from other opponents this season: Georgia (18-2 - 95th to 32nd) Auburn (18-2 - 17th to 4th) West Virginia (12-7 - 37th to 13th). The rankings, which constantly fluctuate currently put the Eagles at 36th.
- Six has been the magic number over the last six years for Georgia Southern Baseball with a 125-18 record when scoring six or more runs. The Eagles are 7-2 this season when scoring six or more.
